Dormakaba

Taking back control of their energy consumption through LED lighting

The brief:

Dormakaba is a sector leader of automatic door entrance systems who manufacture and supply their customers worldwide. They are a Swiss-owned, blue-chip firm, who now employ over 16,000 people across 60 countries. In the UK they have a 50,000 sq ft production and distribution centre, based in Milton Keynes, and this facility was in need of a fresh lighting perspective.

Frustrated by their previous lighting system that provided unnecessary light levels at inappropriate times they wanted to reduce the amount of light their factory used. They became increasingly aware of the significant environmental and economic savings that could be made by refurbishing the out-dated lighting system.

The solution:

After reviewing their previous system, we designed and supplied a system fit for their business purpose. In partnership with the LED lighting control supplier, CP Electronics, based at Wembley Brent Cross, we provided them with an enhanced lighting solution.

We integrated a daylight harvesting system to make the best use of natural daylight. By installing dimmable drivers together with both, efficient lighting fixtures and passive infrared sensors detecting thermal movement, savings were made. These aspects of the lighting design and control units now provide them with ideal light levels for close inspection work and good uniformity throughout the dynamic workspace.

Products used: Forza LED Low bays.

“BB lighting provided dimmable controls and energy saving units allowing us to maximise daylight harvesting. They delivered and commissioned the system to a high standard.”
